Case reviews for veterinary surgeons
Experienced behavioural input, without the wait
Do you need help working out which behavioural medication is appropriate, or what first-aid advice to give? Or maybe you’re not sure whether a full referral is the right option? My case reviews for veterinary surgeons give you clear, evidence-based guidance on exactly these questions.
The process is simple
Once you’ve got the client’s permission, get in touch and then send over the relevant history. I’ll review the case and come back to you with clear, usable recommendations you can put into practice.
Beyond fluoxetine: support with complex medication cases
Choosing psychoactive medication can become challenging when you’re weighing up licensed versus unlicensed options under the cascade, managing an animal already on several drugs, or untangling a behaviour issue that sits alongside multiple comorbidities. Long-term cases bring their own questions, too — knowing when and how to adjust a dose, add a second medication, or safely swap one. These are exactly the cases I can help with, bringing careful, evidence-based reasoning to the decisions that don’t have an obvious answer.
With every review I’ll consider how physical health factors may be influencing the behaviour, and work with you to identify when further medical investigation may be warranted.
Referring practices receive specific guidance on medication use and monitoring so your team has everything it needs to prescribe and follow up with confidence.
Is a case review the right fit?
Veterinary case reviews are great for:
- Seeking advice on which medication to use— or whether to medicate at all.
- Getting safe, practical first-aid advice to pass on to an owner.
- Reviewing or adjusting an existing long-term medication plan
- Considering whether physical health may be influencing the behaviour.
- Keeping a case in-house, with expert backup.
A full referral is better when:
- Direct assessment of the pet and caregiver is essential.
- The caregiver needs training advice and ongoing coaching.
- There’s significant risk — serious aggression or safety concerns — that calls for direct, sustained support.
- Complex cases where a full behavioural referral would provide more appropriate depth and continuity.
What’s included in a case review?
- A full review of the pet’s medical and behavioural history.
- A written report with evidence-based, practical recommendations, back with you within seven working days.
- Medication guidance, including psychoactive options where appropriate.
- An outline of any possible medical comorbidities to keep in mind.
- One month of follow-up support by WhatsApp or email, for further questions or queries.
Confidence in the advice
You’ll find me listed on the CCAB register — independent accreditation for clinical animal behaviourists, originally established with representatives from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. I also work within the framework of the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC), so you can be confident the guidance is current, evidence-based, and ethically grounded.
And if a case turns out to need more input, a full behavioural referral is always an option.

Please note
- Reviews cannot be undertaken on incomplete clinical histories or where the clients permission has not been obtained.
- Reviews are normally completed within seven working days of receiving all relevant information. During periods of annual leave or increased demand, turnaround times may be slightly longer, and any changes will be clearly communicated to referring practices.
